USAF currently monitor remote fixed assets by ground sensors which alerts monitoring locations when the sensor is alerted to ground movement in a specified are surrounding the asset. This is an accurate method to monitor ground movement but the remote monitoring location had no visual way to determine what triggered the sensor. Security would often arrive to determine if the alert was an actual threat and discover that the sensor was triggered by an animal or debris.

The USAF determined that utilizing the ability to access remote cameras would allow the deployment team the ability to visually assess the area to determine if the source of the sensor alert was a possible threat. The initial deployment was through a satellite backhaul back to the monitoring station. This method was very expensive and real time video could not achieve more than 1fps.

The USAF approached Antenna Products to provide a backhaul network that would supply a secure wireless network that would allow for multiple live video feeds from ten separate monitored sites ranging from .75 to 12 miles separation from the monitoring site.

Antenna Products was able to successfully connect a fixed and PTZ camera located at each of the ten remote sites to a monitoring location and from the monitoring station to the base 51 miles away. The backhaul link from the monitoring location to the base had a sustained data rate of 38.3MBPS while the certified FIPS 140-2 cryptographic modules were enabled.
